Mission Statement:
Down Under Mustangs Equine Rescue began in 2002, and is a private rescue in Mount Shasta, California that provides shelter and care for horses that are feral, sick, injured, abandoned, abused, neglected, or slaughter bound when the owner can no longer keep them. These horses are given a low stress place where they are handled and happily rehabilitated, retrained, and rehomed in permanent loving homes. DUM is a no-kill rescue, unless the horse is terminally ill and/or suffering in pain. DUM is run by one person alone, and receives no funding of any sort other than out of pocket and by private donation.

Down Under Mustangs is a private rescue and all expenses are out of pocket. One person cares for the whole operation. If you can offer a donation of hay or other feed, transport of feed, or sponsorship for one of the rescue horses on the website, any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Please click the donate button above to use Paypal, or contact me for more information.

Be a hero! Sponsor a rescue horse.

Please donate toward the care and feed bill of these rescues - they are precious lives that want to please their human caretakers and handlers. They are so very worthy of saving, and reaching their goal of a forever and safe home to call their own. They simply cannot understand why their previous owners hurt them, neglected them, ignored them when they asked for only food and water and a little attention.

THE SKINNY: It costs $900.00 for hay and $120.00 for fuel to haul the hay per month currently. It costs another $260 per month for wormers, alfalfa pellets, COB, Bute, HorseGuard, salt licks, and treats (apples carrots). Sometimes we skip a lot of these luxury items since we just don't have the money.
Farriery here is done by myself. I trim all and shoe those that need it with Epona Shoes.
Veterinary care is had for those who need it. We have to pay full price and receive no discount from the local vets. We currently have three horses with serious lameness issues that need a trip the to vet as well as a few that need a dental visit. We rely on public donation for this! We just can't afford it. Please help. Will provide public thank youm vet receipt, and undying gratitude!
THANK YOU to Margaret Hoagland who sends us $20 a month to help with the feed bill. What a great lady. Thank you to World War II veteran (not many left!) Mr. Frank Roda of Mt. Shasta Kiger Mustangs who donated a ton of grass hay and some tack, feeders, trail obstacles, straw, and fly masks. We also bought a Stonewall saddle (cavalry saddle) from Frank that we are using on Mustang Sally. See in recent photos.
THANK YOU to Sandy Skiff of Edgewood that generously donated an acre pasture for the rescue horses for the summer.
WE ARE FULL!!! I am only taking in horses in serious trouble right now (I always make room for a starving or neglected horse, Animal Control seizures, taking in a few whose owners are moving and they cannot find placement for them). As always, 100% of your donation goes directly to the rescue horses. If you have or know of a horse in serious trouble, PLEASE CALL!!! A few months EARLY if possible!!! We want to help you.
