Mission Statement:
Home of Down Under Mustangs and Siskiyou Hydroponics.
Down Under Mustangs & Equine Rescue began in 2002, and is a private rescue in Mount Shasta, California that provides shelter and care for horses that are feral, sick, injured, abandoned, abused, neglected, or slaughter bound when the owner can no longer keep them. These horses are given a low stress place where they are handled and happily rehabilitated, retrained, and rehomed in permanent loving homes. DUM is a no-kill rescue, unless the horse is terminally ill and/or suffering in pain. DUM is run by one person alone, and receives no funding of any sort other than out of pocket and by private donation.

I won't give you a bunch of redundant hype or buzz words like "in these tough times" and "in this economy" blah blah. Frankly, I'm sick of hearing it. It is what it is. But I WILL tell you that I really do need your help to save more horses. And that the person here is doing without, so that more horses can be saved. Please donate toward the care and feed bill of these rescues - they are precious lives that want to please their human caretakers and handlers. They are so very worthy of saving, and reaching their goal of a forever and safe home to call their own. They simply cannot understand why their previous owners hurt them, neglected them, ignored them when they asked for only food and water.
It costs $5.00 per day per horse to feed and worm... $55.00 a month per horse - not counting shoes, boots, farriery, and veterinary care. It costs nothing to love them. There are 11 horses here currently. As always, 100% of your donation goes directly to the rescue horses.
Please Donate.

A HUGE thank you to all that donated to DUM this holiday season - including the Southern Oregon Carriage Society, Kathy Graves, the Hoaglands of Callahan, Bruce and Tineke Lambert of McCloud, Jack Van Dorp of Quartz Hill, Jeff and Marie Skelly of Sunland, and John Connelly of Sacramento for his continued support of the mustangs hay bill. DUM rescue would not have made it this winter if it weren't for you.

No breed is more prominently represented in the slaughter trucks rolling toward Canada and Mexico than the Quarter Horse. ~ John Holland

IF ANYONE has any idea what happened to the chestnut mare that was abandoned up past Sawyer's Bar off of Forest Service Road 36N27 - please let me know. The horse was living in an abandoned cabin up by the old Burns Ranch area by Blue Ridge and was very skinny. DUM Rescue went up there to bring her down to safety and she was no longer there. If you took her home and have her - just let us know what happened to her please, we are all worried. CalFire crews that were stationed up there were feeding her and they and the USFS are very concerned about her wellbeing. She does have a home in Redding if you cannot care for her.

Please help Riley find a home. Click on Adoptions for more information.
