Comet Dance "Dancer" Riley Misty is an 18 year old Quarter Horse cross (possibly with draft) mare, unpapered. She is 14.1 hands and extremely stout. She is very easy to catch, loves attention and grooming. Misty was been spoiled by children at one time and needs a firm hand. She can be very pushy on the ground if you let her. Misty seems t have an arthritic condition to the hind legs. She stand with the fetlock joints "popped" up. May not be able to be ridden, needs vetting but I can't afford at this time. She has a few bad habits like pinning her ears and moving away from the mounting block, as well as when being saddled and cinched. She was probably cinched up hard and not walked like she should have been before the cinch was tightened. She is not a horse for a beginner child rider. She has been ridden extensively by teenagers. Trail broke, calm and quiet yet spunky, loves to go out. Not spooky. She is very barn sour when ridden alone but is fine when ridden with another horse. Has done reining and gaming with teenagers. Great lead horse for ponying. Mustang Sally Candy Cane ATKH XS NRG aka Gracie Rosie The horses are listed for sale on this site are horses that I have trained or rescued, rehabilitated and retrained. The monies collected from their adoptions and sale as well as fees charged for training horses go directly into hay and grain for the rescue horses, for vet care, medications, etc. This is how I am able to feed them. Be a part of the solution not the problem - never breed a backyard mare! Adopt a rescued horse instead!!
Horses above are listed on the following horse for sale sites;
The following horses are for adoption - they need some special work and attention. All horses to qualified adopters only.
Adoption fees are NON-NEGOTIABLE and non-refundable. I will refund the adoption fee within the first week of adoption only with the return of the horse to me if it does not work out.
The horses in the For Sale section are horses that have been through training here as projects to feed the rescue horses, or are listed here for friends.
Dancer is a 10 - 11 year old Thoroughbred broodmare that came from the local Swenson Thoroughbred ranch. She is broke to ride and requires at least an intermediate rider, although she LOVES CHILDREN. She is a large mare, 16.3 hands (we just taped her) and has a bony spine which needs extra padding with an Association Tree saddle, or Green to Yellow Wintec measurement.
Dancer needs someone that wants to do Dressage or flatwork. She has a typey TB build and cannot carry a load up and down steep hills, packing, etc. Its too much for her and honestly not what she was bred for.
Dancer has broken down in the hinds before from being over ridden with a heavy rider and probably on the track. She would do best with a dressage trainer and rider, perhaps young girl that wants to learn Dressage. Absolutely no jumping. She is a sensitive mare, buddy sweet, and subordinate in the herd. For more information contact Lisa at 530-926-2939. Papers included.

Riley has undergone a change in the last six months. He is not as reactive as he used to be and seems to want to interact with people more now - he used to be rather standoffish. He has not been worked with that much in the past year but I have kept him going being saddled, tied, mounted, bathed and groomed, feet, and a little lunging when I had time.
BLM Mustang gelding, 8 years old, foaled in 2002. From the Pine Nut Herd in Nevada. Riley is a natural jumper even though he is not tall. A victim of the economic crunch, he was abandoned by his owner at a boarding facility in 2008. Had extensive groundwork done in 2007 - 2008, ground drives, Down Under Horsemanship trained, ties, bathes, trims, lunges like a dream, trained to the bit (stop, turn flex), has had extensive desensitization with tarps, plastic bags, has been packed on in 2005, laid across, mounted while tied, carries a mannequin but has not been ridden.Has issues with his butt.
Riley is an extremely smart and spunky little horse. He would be a great little trick horse. Needs lots more desensitization on his butt. Can be reactive and fearful - some of this is a game to him. He would come out of this if the person working with him is consistent. He really needs a job. SUPERB unheard of natural balance, can canter at the pace of a normal horse's walk, natural collection, also GREAT reaching leg flicking extensions. Would be incredible in the Dressage ring. Quick on his feet. Would also be great in gymkhana, or perfect endurance horse. Social, but does best with an Alpha horse. Picks on subordinates. Loves to play in the sprinklers on a hot day. LOVES kids.
Riley had a few bad starts and got away with acting up. He needs someone to lay the law down to him and ride the buck out of him. Videos on YouTube - under downundermustangs. Adoption fee $500.00. Approved home only.

Misty
Super on the lunge line. Someone really ruined her mouth with a harsh bit. Retrained her last summer with a french link snaffle and she’s soft again. NO harsh curb bit needed, just a short jointed shank is plenty. She has super easy leg aids and sidepasses, turn on the haunches and forehand, and leg yields no problem. She has been retrained in walk and trot, mouth softened back up, and worked on her attitude at these gaits. If her legs hurt she is strictly aggressive and unrideable.
Misty has really thin soled huge feet for her size. She seems to have arthritis or something win the hind legs. She is not sound at this time even with shoes, working on affording a vet visit for her. Up to date on all shots and worming.
Misty does great in a herd situation. She is a submissive horse in the herd. Easy keeper, also needs her teeth floated now. Lots of personality, a really sweet mare. If you can offer Misty the forever home she deserves please call Down Under Mustangs at 530-261-1920. For adoption $500.00

Mustang Sally is an approximately 12 year old BLM mustang mare. She was not ridden this past year but is going out on the trail like a pro and is fantastic and sound. We may keep her for a lessons horse. She has been packed on also. She is not a spooky horse in traffic or most situations but is afraid fo tractors and heavy equipment.
Sally would be a good horse for an intermediate teen or adult. She was spoiled with the first owner, trained and fixed, and then spoiled again by the third owner. She has being retrained here this spring and getting some finish training that she never got, in canter. She has great tough feet that are natural trim and she is fine that way.
Sally can be pushy but backs down if you make her behave. Great with traffic, not spooky being ponied on the road. Does not act as if she's had any work at the canter. BIG ole loud extended trot! Huge extensions. Would make a super hunter hack prospect.
She is very good but needs a firm hand at times since she was spoiled. Not a horse for a beginner. Sally is built downhill and needs to be ridden collected. We are Dressaging her and finding her balance.
Videos on YouTube under downundermustangs. For sale $800.00.

This horse is listed or a friend. Candy Cane is a 5yr old this spring. She can be registered as a Pinto. The owner has all of her papers. She spent some time training her and she's had some trail rides last summer.
The owner bought her and a colt at 9 months and I worked on him more, so Candy is a bit behind in training. Owner has 6 horses total and just doesn't have the time to finish Candy. She needs to be used instead of sitting around. She has immaculate feet & owner is adamant about their care and health. She trailers very well and is use to kids, dogs, etc. she just is a bit jumpy at times because she is young and inexperienced.
Candy Cane needs a experienced rider/trainer and a good home where her care is going to be maintained. Owner will consider all offers or trades, just doesn't want to see her sit around anymore. Please help her find a good home, hopefully somewhere local (Siskiyou County) so she can keep an eye on her - she is a part of the family.

This great little Arabian mare is purebred, pedigreed, and was starved and neglected at the home she was rescued from. She has had a terrible wire cut that almost cut her poor neck in half. She is 14 years old and papered. She is a granddaughter of Khemosabi and a great granddaughter of Bask.
Gracie had no clue of leg aids except to go fast forward. She was iron mouthed and only knew stop and go. She is now in a beautiful light Dressage frame, on the bit, and gives gorgeous sidepass, shoulder in, leg yield, rein back, and square stops. She also gives lovely turn on the forehand and on the haunches. She has a bit of trouble bending to the left from her neck injury but is getting better. Working on slowing the gaits down. Has a great slow trot and is beginning to have a great slow canter. She is more balanced in left lead than in right. She tends to crossfire - we ARE training that out of her.
Gracie melts when you praise her, and gives many submissive signs now when being handled, lunged and ridden. She loves to work. She is awesome on the trails. She spooks a bit around spots of snow.
Gracie is a stall weaver. She was kept stalled at one time which caused the habit. She is a wonderful trail horse, sweet and safe, but needs a firm hand at times. GORGEOUS extensions. Submissive in the herd. To a forever home only. Great lesson horse. For sale $2500. Papers included.

This one is listed for a friend. He found this mule mare abandoned at a boarding facility around Redding somewhere. He brought her home and found that she had been used fro packing, and possibly is broke to ride but he's not sure. He has never gotten on her. Her name is Rosie - that's really all he knows. She is around 12 years old by her dentals, and about 14 hands. She acts as though she has been beaten. He was going to keep her but has too many animals and is asking $500.00 for her. He also has another molly mule that is usable for the same price. Please contact Manuel Rais at 530-467-5637.
