If you are interested in sponsoring one of the rescue horses at DUM, we could really use your help. It costs approximately $125.00 per horse monthly to feed, worm and provide basic care, not including veterinary and farriery.
Please contact me at 530-261-1920, or email at tara@downundermustangs.com.
One time donations are appreciated too, and every little bit helps.
If you would like to sponsor a horse, you can make a set donation of your choice amount per month. If you can sponsor a horse's entire feed bill, you will get credit on the horse's ads here on the DUM website.
Donations can be made via credit or debit card through Paypal; click here.

Ziya is a sweet and friendly 12 year old 16.2 hand Quarter Horse gelding. He was employed by the Forest Service and led a string of pack mules for most of his life. He was hurt badly on turnout and sheared the heel off of his front foot. He is not sound and has been here in rehab for over a year and a half.
Ziya is available for sponsorship now. He is not available for adoption as it is doubtful he will ever be sound or usable again. His rehab is going good and he may be used for a few beginning rider lessons this year in the sand arena if he is sound enough to do so. He also needs a dental float.

Riley has been here for two years, floated from home to home from the time he was first adopted from the BLM in 2002. He has had a few people look at him but no one wanted him enough to adopt him so far. He is on the sponsorship list now - I don't know if the little guy will ever find a home.

Toukke (two-key) is an 18 year old 16.1 hand track run Thoroughbred gelding. He had a short racing career and was then used as a ranch horse by his ranch manager owner until he was no longer able to do his job. Toukke has ringbone, a painful osteoarthritis in the rear fetlock joints. He is not usable any more. He is on a pain management program here and happily spending his retired days with his many girlfriends at DUM rescue. Toukke LOVES children and visitors. Toukke needs a dental float this year.

Diva is a Sheldon mustang mare that was rescued from slaughter with her filly, Piff. Diva is healthy and sound but has serious fear issues and would never be safe to ride or handle for most people. She has had lots of handling and training but still is a dangerous horse in inexperienced hands, and one that may end up back at slaughter if she were adopted out. She is a lifetime resident of DUM rescue and happily lives with her daughter who is 5 years old now and a great riding horse.

There is more information on these and other horses on the rescue page.

THE SKINNY: It costs $900.00 for hay and $120.00 for fuel to haul the hay per month currently. It costs another $160 per month for wormers, alfalfa pellets, COB, Bute, HorseGuard, salt licks, and treats (apples carrots). Sometimes we skip a lot of these luxury items since we just don't have the money.
Farriery here is done by myself. I trim all and shoe those that need it with Epona Shoes.
Veterinary care is had for those who need it. We have to pay full price and receive no discount from the local vets. We rely on public donation for this. I will begin intake in March this year, then as soon as some horses get adopted, I will take in more. I am only taking in horses in serious trouble right now (I always make room for a starving or neglected horse, taking in a few whose owners are moving and they cannot find placement for them). As always, 100% of your donation goes directly to the rescue horses.
There are four horses here currently that need their teeth floated this year - Toukke, Gracie, Misty, and Ziya. Dental floating costs around $100.00 per horse and is a necessary procedure for all horses to maintain health of the mouth in order to digest food properly. Please let me know if you can donate for a float for someone! You will receive a public thank you on this website and our undying gratitude for donating or sponsoring.
