Badger's California Girl aka Cookie

This very pretty Peppy San Badger filly is left over from a breeding program in Siskiyou County. The papers can be pursued through AQHA by the old owners, who are nice people and would help you obtain them. In the process of getting her pedigree to post online. Foaled April 26th 2006, this filly just turned three years old. She has had no handling - seen people but is semi feral. She has a lovely shape and nice big butt. Will be 15 hands or so. She has had her first halter on and is learning to lead and to lunge, and be handled. I will continue training as always through saddle starting or until a home can be found. To approved home only. Must have training experience to adopt. Videos on You Tube under downundermustangs.
Cookie was adopted by a couple in Grass Valley that have her going under saddle now. They were also able to get Cookie's mom, Holly, from the previous owner. Now mare and filly are back together in a new loving home where they are being trained and used!

Jerry

Quarter Horse cross gelding, DOC BAR and HOLLYWOOD GOLD lineage. 5 years old. Loads, ties, bathes, packs, lunges great. Completely gentle, anyone can handle. Very sweet disposition. Does BEST with an Alpha horse.. Has been shod for toe out in the front. He is sound. Jerry has been packed on in the mountains for two plus years. He makes a GREAT pack horse. He will be a very good saddle horse with proper training. Long strided, Thoroughbred build. Lunges, ties, bathes, loads, has been mounted repeatedly but has not yet been ridden. Starting under saddle this Spring. Jerry was adopted along with Merrylegs below by a couple in Seiad Valley, who are working o n them to use them for packing.

Merrylegs

This sweet little buckskin Quarter pony is 3 years old. Approx 13.3 hands, may grow a little bit more. This little gem was terribly neglected - with good feeding and exercise, she is back to health. Big dent on her nose where a halter was left on too long. She has gained about 150 lbs and has grown a full three inches in the last six months! Great driving prospect. Lovely disposition, very sweet and calm. Subordinate in the herd. Lunges, has been saddled and mounted, bitted, feet have been handled and trimmed, ties great. Not spooky, can be bratty. Gorgeous markings, great little horse. Will be started under saddle early Spring 09. This pony will also learn to ground drive only - I do not have carts so I can not train her to pull one.

Rose Eyed Joe

Josie was here for training as a problem horse in 2008. She was a 5 year old papered Quarter Horse mare, Peppy San Badger and Two Eyed Jack. She did not reach the requirement for her new job leading pack mules at the Forest Service so she ended up here. She liked to buck and was freaky super sensitive. She found a great home in Grass Valley, CA and she has a wonderful life with her boyfriend, Sporty, who is also a Peppy San Badger Quarter Horse. Her owner Amy really loves her and is given her a second chance that she never would have had.

Junior

Junior was a rescued BLM baby boy that was taken from his mother too young and starved because he couldn't eat regular food yet. He was so weak and malnourished he was unable to get up when he laid down. Darla at Strawberry Mountain Mustangs rehabbed him, and I brought him here to find him a home. He was adopted by Earl and Taffy Taulbee of Fort Jones. He was found another home a year later, and turned out to be a great saddle horse and the easiest horse to start under saddle his new owner ever had the pleasure of working. He has a great home in Burney Falls, Ca.

Annabelle

Annabelle was a 1 year old drafty chocolate BLM filly. She was trained from halterbroke to being started under saddle here at DUM when she was 2 1/2. She was adopted by a local gal in Weed and it unfortunately didn't work out. She was found another home and the training she got here helped her get another great home.

Victory

"Roo" was on his way to the slaughter house when I took pity on him in 2002. He had TONS of bad habits and was impossible to ride. He refused to go, bucked, reared and wouldn't come back down, and was a real jerk. I started trick training him with food reward and it really made all the difference to him. He is largely Spanish and I was able to teach him tricks - nod yes, rear (when you wanted him to not when you didn't!), Spanish Walk on the ground and under saddle, even Passage. Roo gave lessons here at DUM for quite a few years and was finally sold to a good home to fund the rescue effort. He has a good forever home with a nice lady named Jean in Hammond Ranch.

Kokomo AKA Happy

Happy was a 14.1 Welsh Pony Appaloosa cross I got from a person in Scott Valley that bought and sold a LOT of horses. He was about 7 when I got him and the person was mostly afraid of him. He was dubbed "Kokomo" after the Florida shaped star on his forehead, for his promotion ads so that the original owner would not have any say in his rehoming. Happy was retrained here and BOY was he SMART!!! He picked up jumping, lead changes, slide stops, and even some Dressage laterals in the short three months that he was here. He was bought by a lovely woman, Kristin, and her daughter down by Sacramento - and look what they've done with him!!! HOLY COW!!! His sale helped save three other horses from slaughter. A true win - win situation for all involved, especially Kokomo!!! He is a happy much loved little horse!

Sundance

Sundance was a Sheldon Mustang Filly - long yearling when I got her. She was remarkably colored and found a home within two weeks of being here. She got a great home in Oregon.
