DUM Rescue and training is interested in volunteers only if they meet certain criteria

Volunteers must: be at least 13 years old; have their own health insurance, or provided by parents; sign a volunteer waiver that DUM is not responsible for any and all injury or death caused by any involvement by horses at DUM and surrounding areas by volunteer, guests, or family of volunteer. Must be at least of intermediate riding skill to volunteer for exercising, handling, showing or trail riding of DUM rescue horses. Volunteers of lesser value will be required to take lessons at full price to attain intermediate level to be able to volunteer for horse activities, and may be required to continue lessons while in volunteer status, depending upon age and experience level.

DUM rescue is interested in volunteers that are able to groom, handle, gentle, bathe, lunge, exercise and pony, muck out stalls, help clean paddocks, can follow protocol of training for the horses and reinforce training by following the same guidelines. Training for volunteers will be provided in instances where the volunteer has a complete knowledge of horse behavior - guidelines are in place and will be followed to the T. I am NOT interested in people that make up their own rules of training, inadvertently giving my horses bad habits, that have lack of training information, feel that they are proving something to themselves or others - these will be offered lessons until they learn proper horse handling procedure and riding skills. Horses can be very dangerous animals if you do not learn their language and give them the proper respect. Sorry - I can not "trade" anyone lessons for volunteering. See the Riding Lessons page for more info on lessons.

Ideally, if you are an experienced horse person and have trained your own horse or other horses before, have studied horse training methods and not made your own methods up, are over 16 years old, and really want to learn more about training and practice on many different horses, I can use ya! Reinforcement exercises, tacking, handling, exercising, helping to promote horses for adoption, adoption days, a booth downtown for 4th of July would be great with fundraising.
